Effect of Tamoxifen Therapy on Lipid Profile in Iraqi Postmenopausal Breast Cancer Woman
Abstract
Background: Tamoxifen is a non-steroidal anti-estrogen drug is one of the common used hormonal therapy for patients with breast cancer. It has been recommended that its estrogenic activity is largely responsible for the detected changes in lipid parameters level. Objective: the aim from this study is to detect the effects of tamoxifen therapy on serum lipid profile in postmenopausal female with breast cancer. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study (2021/2022) done at Imam Al-Hussein Medical city oncology / center in Kerbala .It consist of measurement of serum lipid profile include: Total cholesterol ,Triglyceride, low density lipoprotein ,Very low density lipoprotein ,High density lipoprotein in postmenopausal female with BC on tamoxifen treatment, this measurement was done by using colorimetric method, results of this study include a total of 100 patients with BC were involved in this study. Results: Serum Lipid Profile was significantly improved in BC group who receive treatment with tamoxifen by decrease of LDL with increase age group (despite the reduction was insignificant with Total cholesterol, Triglyceride, Very low density lipoprotein) accompanied by elevation of HDL although it was non-significant.
